John Melvin Bubba Phillips (February 24 1928 - June 22 1993) was an American Major League Baseball (MLB) player from Macon Mississippi. A third baseman he played on three American League (AL) teams in 10 seasons from 1955 through 1964. In 1961 he led the American League with 188 putouts as third baseman and in 1963 he led the American League with 10 sacrifice flies. Phillips was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1972.
